Sometimes you learn about a place in Sunset Magazine (below), and it piques your interest enough that you have lunch there. Such was the case with the Cuyama Buckhorn - great food and coffee in a remote area that's otherwise slim pickings.

the road to Cuyama
Upon leaving the Los Padres National Forest you get the sense of being in a desert, with the bone-dry Cuyama River running alongside the highway for miles. Despite the dryness, there is agriculture and viticulture.

far reaches of Highway 33
It was meaningful to celebrate our "Anniversary complex" with a long overdue trip all the way up Highway 33. As it turns out the Pine Mountain summit is not scary at all - just an awesome scenic vista (above) following other pleasant pieces of the Los Padres National Forest. It was good to "break on through to the other side".
