salts of the earth

As a salt enthusiast, I was happy to receive this exotic assortment for Christmas. I'd never heard of most of them and need only to figure out how to use them. Now I can take my salt education to the next level.

five essentials

For Christmas I received five things a person can never have too much of: organic coffee, socks, moisturizer, Deepak Chopra and boxer shorts

Elfin Forest

Upon departing Morro Bay we took a quick stop at the Elfin Forest in nearby Los Osos. It's a scrubland next to a wetland, and more notably a pygmy oak woodland wherein the California Live Oaks are stunted to a range of four to twenty feet (whereas normally they reach 50 feet).

Daisy's Organic Coffee

Sometimes your facial ensemble has an uncanny resemblance to a randomly encountered painting of a bouquet of flowers. This remarkable moment of synchronicity occurred at Daisy's Organic Coffee in Morro Bay.

sea otters revisited

They seem to enjoy snoozing while doing a back float.

Morro Bay osprey

Not surprising to see an osprey in this environment. What was amazing was the way it seemed to remain in its perch for days on end.

the fabulous double rainbow

Were I not forced to park on the east side of the hotel parking lot, I may not have noticed this fabulous full double rainbow. It was quite stunning and the timing was perfect.

Morro Bay Maritime Museum

From a distance this thing looks like a torpedo or a missile, but in fact it's a "Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle", designed to rescue crew from distressed submarines. I suppose that's a good thing. I don't think I would do well in a submarine - too claustrophobic.

The Rock Espresso Bar

Possibly our best coffee house experience in Morro Bay was at The Rock Espresso Bar. Great coffee, good service and a very nice back garden area.

Umi Sushi & Sake

It's also fair to say that Umi Sushi & Sake is also a well-designed building, inside and out. The lunch was good, but the building was even better.

Museum of Natural History

The Museum of Natural History at Morro Bay State Park is well-situated; it's perched at the foot of a rocky point that visitors can hike on. It's also fair to say that this museum and its surroundings are aesthetically pleasing.

Morro Bay State Park

Some would describe this park as a wetland par excellence.
