Tennessee Williams, black & white film and the year 1959 equals a fairly potent cocktail called "Suddenly, Last Summer" which I recognized when it recently aired on TCM because I had seen it a few years back. I have seen several of these Tennessee Williams adaptations and they have a slightly unreal, stilted quality that I like. It's also clear that around that time, cigarettes were holding the psyches of Liz Taylor's film personas together (watch 1960's "Butterfield 8"), I suppose much in the way I need my morning coffee. One wonders if the actual Liz Taylor needed a smoke as much as her characters did.
Tennessee Williams - thumbs up!
