Surf Beach had been something of a mystery to me. Completely surrounded by Vandenberg Air Force Base, it is also a stop on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner. Evidently it serves the city of Lompoc and nearby communities. As for the beach, we saw for ourselves that it's a public beach managed by the Air Force - not something you see every day.
