Said to be the second largest canyon in the United States (at 120 miles long), you would think that Palo Duro Canyon, the "Grand Canyon of Texas", would be more of a household name. Located near otherwise flat Amarillo, the park has an attractive visitor center and extensive trail system built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930's. The weather was warm and the skies were blue, making this a welcome change from the Rocky Mountain snowstorm we left behind us.
