The next morning, when I popped into the lodge for fresh coffee, I took note of the paintings on display in the lobby. The artist, Stephen H. Willard, was evidently a notable painter of Mammoth Lakes and the Eastern Sierra as well as Palm Springs. Not only were his landscapes "postcard perfect", but he was also an important contributor and innovator of the 20th century postcard. Willard ran two galleries, one in Palm Springs and the other here at Mammoth - the latter of which is today's Twin Lakes Art Gallery off Lake Mary Road.
Impressive. Glad you took the time to read up on him in the lodge.
