A bit of background on the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. It's not just any hotel, but among the most famous in Canada. When it opened in 1929 it was for three years the tallest building in the British Empire. It was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in conjunction with Toronto Union Station, which is conveniently located directly across the street. Perhaps the most famous repeat visitor was Queen Elizabeth II, and a lobby display (above) honors her frequent visits. Along with the fact that there is a Royal Suite deep inside the hotel, the prominently-placed clock in the center of the lobby (below) is a gift from the Royal Family.
I thank Cheryl for bringing this gem to our attention.
