Heading to Ojai...

charred hillsides, part 2

Along the PCH north of Ventura... Fortunately beaches don't burn.

Water + Leaves

We were delighted to discover Water + Leaves, a new (for us) coffee house right on the wharf in Monterey. The coffee and design of the place are excellent. Best of all, someone had the sense to put a coffee house in a place with an inspiring view. There were already enough seafood restaurants on the wharf, so it's refreshing to see this instead.

Coast Guard Pier revisited

The Coast Guard Pier, another one of our old spots. Unfortunately due to the high tide there were not a lot of sea lions, and the area by the jetty was fenced off (below), but instead there were more unusual birds, such as our old friend the black oystercatcher (next photo, lower left) and others I could not identify (at bottom), which may possibly be surf scoters.

Point Pinos revisited

Clear skies and unusually high surf made for some pretty pictures...

Marina State Beach, CA

One of our old spots, but with unusually large waves that day.
