Outlook Inn

One of the finest rooms I have ever stayed in, with one of the finest views. The Outlook Inn also has a very interesting history, going back to the earliest days of Eastsound and then reinvented in the 60's by spiritually-inclined hippies (who identified the vortex near Indian Island).

Where we had dinner that night in Eastsound...

Madrona Point

While sitting on the deck at Madrona's we noticed a dock and upon learning that it was public we took a short walk down Haven Road to see it. I believe this whole sleepy spit of land is called Madrona Point. Not sure what the tree with the yellow flowers is.

the deck at Madrona revisited

Realizing that the deck at Madrona is a place of extraordinary peace and pleasantness, we went back for more peace, pleasantness and craft cider. Whether there is a vortex out there beyond Indian Island - as we heard about - or if it's just a case of Mother Nature at its best, the sense of peace is palpable. (Note the madrone tree in bottom photo; they are common to the area).

The Kitchen

The Kitchen, a good example of the kind of interesting and well-designed restaurants we found in Eastsound, making full use of the mild climate to create pleasant indoor/outdoor spaces.

more maritime scenery

...as seen on our orca expedition, which helped me start to make make sense of the complex geography of this area. Multiple islands and mountain ranges spread across two countries contribute to the complexity.

the scenic Salish Sea

stellar sea lions

In addition to the orca pod, which was found in an area called the Salish Sea, we passed these rocky islands covered with steller sea lions. Again, we couldn't get the clearest pictures, but it was well worth seeing with our own eyes.
