Deming, NM

A small town in New Mexico where we stayed a couple years back... some of which I recognized from the train. The Rancher's Grill, for instance (seen below), where we had dinner. And the Walmart (also below), which my wife found less than enchanting. All in all though, for one night, the town worked for our purposes. The Best Western, not seen here, was very good.

As the train continued east, on both sides you could see snow on distant mountain ranges... one more intriguing than the next. This was recognizably Arizona low desert, but with snow-covered cacti and other associated vegetation.

Four of my favorite things on one image: snowy mountains, solar panels, desert and railroad tracks. It was a massive installation and beautiful to pass by.

It was east of Tucson that the scenery got really remarkable. I couldn't tell what this was at first, but then...

what the Tucson station gets right...

One of the best stations in the whole Amtrak system... It gets many things right, including above-average coffee from Maynards Market.
