Speaking of Long Island history, I had for years wondered why I had never visited the Walt Whitman Birthplace in Huntington Station, NY. It's hidden away on a side street near the Walt Whitman shopping mall, but once you find it you can't help realizing that it's been lovingly preserved and professionally curated. I took the tour and bought the postcard, in honor of the old postcard that inspired this visit.
One wonders if I will ever have the opportunity to visit here…
