bigleaf magnolia

A botanical highlight of 2017 was stumbling upon this bigleaf magnolia tree at the Quaker cemetery in Westbury, NY. The leaves are sometimes longer than 30 inches, the largest of any magnolia. What made this find especially noteworthy is that Magnolia macrophylla is native to Mississippi and very rarely encountered up north. I look forward to seeing it in bloom.
