Clark's nutcracker

A different kind of birdwatching: I accidentally stumbled upon this bird on one of my own blogs! It's from a post I did in 2011 about visiting Heavenly Mountain in Lake Tahoe. At the time I had no idea what it was, and later forgot that the photo even existed. The past decade however has made me a much better birder and I can say with some certainty that it's a Clark's nutcracker. This was a cool discovery since these very distinctive birds are found only at high altitudes.

  1. I regret that I do not remember seeing this bird in person. Perhaps I was busy marching ahead on a trail when you spotted this bird.
