A new for me species seen at Soule Park that day was the white-breasted nuthatch. I saw several of them doing what they do - hopping around tree trunks at odd angles and driving their bills deep into the grooves of the branches and the bark. I guess they were finding what they were looking for because they kept doing it.
This behavior may need further investigation.
