This interesting bird that we encountered nibbling seaweed in the cove appears to be a Black Brant goose, the Pacific subspecies of Branta bernicla. Their range extends from Baja California to the north shore of Siberia. To save time, you can just call it a Brant.
Whoever first spotted this goose was a genius.
