Just outside the restaurant was this historic grindstone which was used at Swan Lake - not the ballet by Tchaikovsky but a nearby lake that we didn't have time to see. It's a shame that we had such a short amount of time to explore a place so rich in history. Sitka was sort of the Monterey of Russian America - the territorial capital where the transfer to the United States took place in 1867 (whereas California was ceded by Mexico in 1846).
It is a regret for me as well that we did not have time to see more. Perhaps a repeat visit is in our future.
