On those original planned cruise trips we had booked excursions to Misty Fjords National Monument. The name alone is appealing enough. On this trip however we did not make it there, although as we headed south of Ketchikan I confirmed with my phone's GPS that we were sailing right by it. I don't know if that's saying much except that a 2,294,343 acre wilderness preserve on the Alaska panhandle's southern tip is a pretty cool thing, so I took these photos. Pretty soon we were in Canada so I quit the GPS and put my phone on airplane mode.
I think the real WOW “statement” of the Misty Fjords was a bit further in, in the interior so to speak, and amongst the fjords, but, still, passing by was pretty cool.
