What began years ago as an innocent desire to have a coffee at Seaside's fetchingly designed Amavida Coffee turned into a minor fiasco. For one thing, the shop had relocated out of the cute little building I had seen on the Internet. The new location was nearby, but parking was non-existent. Beyond that, parking was policed, which was actually a blessing since the young man in charge let us park just long enough to get coffees to go. The new space was pleasant enough, but not as spiritually uplifting as the cute little building. The drinks were excellent. It was just a funny introduction to Seaside, which is considered a model of New Urbanism.
Besides the good drinks, the experience was, yes, absolutely somewhat of a fiasco. The whole Seaside “experiment” has, in my opinion, turned into somewhat of a fiasco.
