If ever there was someone for a town to be proud of, the man who invented air conditioning - Dr. John Gorrie - is a good choice. Without his pioneering work the Deep South would hardly be habitable. The good doctor - who was motivated by a desire to alleviate his patients' sufferings - is buried and honored in this off-the-beaten-track section of Apalachicola.
Who knows what Appalachicola would be like if it didn’t have that claim to fame!?!
