Also in the Rockport area is Goose Island State Park, home to what's known as "The Big Tree". This champion live oak was once thought to be the largest live oak in the U.S. - a claim we've encountered quite a few different times and places. What's more notable is its age, estimated at 1,100 years old. Early French and Spanish settlers had occupied this site, formerly known as Lamar.
I question the legitimacy of those claims. 🤔
