A little up the coast from Port Aransas is an equally semi-charming town called Rockport. We never really knew much about it till we stopped here at the visitor center. Like "Port A" it's a stop on the birdwatching circuit - its claim to fame being the whooping cranes. A nearby wildlife sanctuary is where the once-endangered cranes migrate to every winter from Canada. Their territories and migration pattern are very specific. Amazingly we saw a flock of them in flight while driving north toward the sanctuary. At least we're 99% sure. (The lady at the visitor center said they're sometimes seen near the Rockport side of the bridge, which is where we saw them). They're the tallest bird in North America, so this was a real highlight.
A major highlight!!
