Extending the Texas Hill Country vibe a little longer, our next destination was Fredericksburg. This was actually after a failed attempt to visit nearby Enchanted Rock State Park, the most popular state park in Texas - so popular that it was filled to capacity and we were turned away. So we drowned our sorrows in Marktplatz von Frederickburg, the town's central park, which had more dimension than we first realized. Above, composer Frank Valentin Van Der Stucken (1858-1929). Below that, one of the early settlers making peace with the local tribe, which supposedly established a relatively harmonious relationship. The park was also a good place to have the picnic lunch we were supposed to have at Enchanted Rock.
Every road trip will have unexpected occurrences. Too bad this was one of them.
