Peabody Institute

Perhaps the most striking building on Mount Vernon Square, the Peabody Institute consists of a library, a conservatory for music and dance, and a preparatory school. It was founded in 1857, although the Edmund George Lind-designed building seen here didn't open until 1866. The institute later became a part of Johns Hopkins University in 1977.

  1. It is striking, but there are many externally striking buildings in that area. I doubt any would rival the Peabody internally, however.
