Layton, UT may at a glance appear to be a vacuous land of sterile shopping centers. It is however the most convenient town off Interstate 15 for those interested in visiting Antelope Island State Park. The Best Western where we stayed had its pros and cons, the biggest pro perhaps being the open space behind the hotel with a walking path and lots of birds. Of those, perhaps the most eye-catching were the black-billed magpies. The ones in California are yellow-billed, so it was nice to see a brand new species. The snow-capped Wasatch Mountains were also a plus.
That was definitely the (only) highlight of that hotel.
