Strolling around the backstreets we took a turn, and next thing you know we were ascending a long walkway to the famous Grand Hotel. It was built in 1887 when a large part of the island (approximately 1000 acres out of 1,800) was a national park. Back then they were still figuring out what a national park was exactly, and it functioned very much as a summer resort. The hotel is said to have the world's largest porch. We didn't go inside as there seemed to be a dress code.
Wonder if it is in the Guiness Book of Records.
