This was my first glimpse of the Grand Canyon from the North Rim, maybe a hundred yards in on the Ken Patrick Trail. Actually my very first piece of glimpse was below, through the trees, but it wasn't hard to find an unobstructed view. If you look closely at the photo above you can see the North Kaibab Trail snaking its way down the steep north wall of the canyon. In an alternate universe where I won the permits to do a rim-to-rim hike, I would be on that trail.
In that alternate universe, I supposenthe park date reopening would not have changed nor would the pipes have burst.
