Navajo Bridge revisited

Everyone should visit Navajo Bridge at least once, so as to appreciate the engineering and hard work that went into building these spans across the Colorado River. There is also a lesson about the width of bridges. The old bridge, opened in 1929, was only 18 feet wide with no shoulders or sidewalks. At the time this was considered sufficient, but over time it proved to be very dangerous. A new, wider bridge (44 feet) was opened in 1995 that met all current safety requirements. The old bridge remains open to pedestrians, which is great because you can really savor the magnificence of this place better on foot.
