They don't teach you this in school, but Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki are two National Monuments managed as one unit. They are somewhat nearby and connected by a 35-mile road. When we were done with the Crater we drove north to Wupatki, occasionally getting glimpses of the North Rim and Utah in the distance. Something else I learned from a National Park Service trivia game is that this road was used in the movie "Easy Rider". So there you have it.
