Also overlooked was what we saw at the other end of the gondola ride: one of the famous downhill slopes of Mammoth Mountain. Although Canyon Lodge had all the charm of an airport terminal (especially when compared to Tamarack Lodge), the enjoyment of watching the skiers fly down the sunny slope was worth the price of admission.
