The trip that was long overdue was Amtrak's California Zephyr. I had been on most of Amtrak's major train routes, but for some reason never the Zephyr. Which is a shame because it is not only one of the most scenic, but - as the descendant of the Transcontinental Railroad - one of the most historic. Having just read a history of the Transcontinental Railroad, the trip was especially meaningful.
