Limekiln State Park

Not far from the Felton Covered Bridge we found ourselves hiking in Limekiln State Park. Besides being a pleasant redwood forest, it is the site of an old lime-smelting operation, and the ruins of four kilns remain. In the late 19th century, the lime was used to make cement that in turn was used to help build Monterey and San Francisco.
