It gets overlooked, but the actual name of this popular hiking venue is Valley View Preserve. In the popular mind however, or at least in my mind, it's known as "Shelf Road". For an added workout that day I did some of the very steep Fox Canyon Trail, the full name of which is apparently the John's Fox Canyon Trail.
