cracking the code

The above route represents the solution to a problem I had wrestled with for decades - how to explore southwest Colorado without traversing any scary 10,000+ mountain passes during a snowstorm. By the time we got to Clines Corners - the junction of route 285 and Interstate 40 - I knew that we had successfully cracked the code. I didn't mind the detours from Colorado to New Mexico and then back to Colorado and then back to New Mexico since we were still able to see all the parks and places we wanted to and then some (Taos and Santa Fe were not in the original plan, but lovable lagniappes tossed in by the weather).

  1. It was a better route, yes, but still a bit scary and hairy at times. Taos and Santa Fe were worth it though.
