After debating whether or not to stop at Monticello, we came to the conclusion that we really did want to tour that famous house but there wasn't enough time. Likewise, upon learning that the mountain that the tv show The Waltons was based on was in the same area, and that there was a museum dedicated to that, we knew there would have to be a return trip someday. We ended up spending the night in Blacksburg, VA - home of Virginia Tech, which sadly was the site of a mass shooting in 2007. I had never been there before and it struck me as a pleasant enough college town that I will now associate with Gillie's (seen here), where we had a nice breakfast.
