Marathon, TX

Marathon, TX was notable on several levels. Rather than stay at the fancy Gage Hotel, we decided to try one of the quaint cabins at the Marathon Motel & RV Park. We learned, and later confirmed, that these cabins were featured in the film Paris, Texas. In fact, we almost stayed in the very room featured in the film, except that we thought the windmill behind the cabin (seen above) might be too noisy, and so we stayed in the cabin in the foreground instead.

For our purposes, the place was great. The fact that the temperature went down to below freezing that night, and the paper thin walls were uninsulated, and we almost froze to death, is no one's fault. The important thing is that we had a memorable experience.
