You know you are in West Texas when you get to Fort Stockton, home to the second largest roadrunner statue in the world, a.k.a. Paisano Pete. In 2002 an even larger one was built in New Mexico. Despite all the sunny skies, the temperatures started to plummet around this time.
Paisano Pete, sounds like a good short story title.
