Just in time for my birthday, our bromeliad presented this miracle (seen above). I love the mathematical symmetry of three three-petaled flowers. The next day there were two (below), and since then it's been alternating between three and two in different places. What you realize is that each of those pointed protrusions is a closed flower capable of opening.
Very interesting! What if there were six? It could happen…. Perhaps.
