Left to my own devices, something possessed me to walk all the way north on Van Buren St. in Monterey. When the street ended there was a trail leading into a green space, and the next thing I noticed was a sign informing me I was in a park called Serra Landing. This was remarkable because in all my years of exploring Monterey, I had never seen or heard of this park. Serra's historic landing in Monterey I had heard of, and knew to have taken place just below at the harbor. Evidently this land, which has a creek running through it, is associated with that event. A narrow footbridge crossed the creek and deposited me on Artillery St. in the Presidio.
You just never know where a walk may take you.
