Whoever invented these was a genius. They seem especially useful in the Inside Passage. I will always ponder the "LOCAL MAGNETIC DISTURBANCE" which appears on two of these maps. I have heard that an ounce of gold in Alaska does not weigh the same in San Francisco, due to magnetic anomalies.
Yes, that was pretty cool. Sadly I think many passengers were not aware of this feature on the ferry.
