the tent deck

A nice thing about the Alaska ferry is that they let people pitch tents on the uppermost deck. For the young and adventurous, or people on a tight budget, I can see how this is a valuable option. Of course, you are responsible for securing your tent from wind, rain, snow and any other elements the Inside Passage may throw at you. Duct tape is popular, and perhaps the weight of your backpack - whatever it takes to keep your tent from flying off the ship!

  1. I think the first ferry had a lot more tents up top. Wish we’d have gotten a photo of that tent deck.
