Plunging directly into historic downtown Sitka, one immediately encounters St. Michael's Cathedral, the first Orthodox Church built in America. Originally built in 1848, the cathedral burned down in an accidental fire in 1966. The prominent landmark, which already had historic protections at the time, was faithfully reconstructed and re-consecrated in 1978.
I am 97% sure I remember that cathedral.
