I've always liked this place. Along with the beauty of the garden and generally historic character there's the fact that Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson lived here in 1879. He was seeking the hand of a lady in the San Francisco Bay Area (Fanny Van de Grift Osbourne) and was biding his time until she said "yes". The following year she said "yes".
It was a great story - that of his biding of time.
